FRANCES WARDE
37 CAPISIC STREET
PORTLAND, ME
PROPERTY OVERVIEW
Since 1903, 37 Capisic Street has been a home for people, namely women, in need of a place of respite, community, and support. That tradition continues today as a 16-bedroom residence for mothers and their children who have come to Maine as asylum-seekers.
At Frances Warde, these New Mainers are provided with on-site services including language acquisition classes, leadership training, transportation, workforce development opportunities, access to food and clothing, cultural exchange programs and so much more. This programming is provided in the many common areas accessible to the tenants. There is also a commercial kitchen where staff cook communal meals for the tenants. CHOM acquired the building in April 2023 and has been conducting an occupied rehabilitation of the building to improve energy efficiency, update systems and build out new spaces for tenant use.
